Patagonia Explorer

17 days/16 nights
Moderately difficult

Traverse the Patagonian steppe to experience the full range of wilderness grandeur, from the highest peak in Patagonia to the southernmost city in the world. You sleep in comfortable hotels and rural inns - i.e. no camping.

At an Indian village you visit caves with 8.000 year old paintings. Hike to base camp beneath San Lorenzo Massif (12,155 feet), Patagonia's highest mountain. Hike amid world-famous granite spires at Glacier National Park. First to Fitzroy base camp, then to Lago Torre.

At Perito Moreno Glacier thunderous cracks signal the slow movement of the enormous glacier as ice calves into the lake.

In Chile's Torres del Paine National Park hike to the Towers lookout to view the Horns of Paine, waterfalls, wildlife, and iceberg-studded Grey Lake.

Fly to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego to hike in beautiful Lapataia National Park with views of the Darwin Range and the Beagle Channel. Enjoy an optional cruise on the Beagle Channel to visit a wildlife refuge.

First and last nights in Buenos Aires. You may wish to arrive a day or two early to have time to explore this cosmopolitan city.
