Each winter gray whales migrate south from their arctic feeding grounds to Baja California's sheltered Pacific coast lagoons. Their roundtrip migration is the longest of any mammal, covering 10,000 miles. Bahía Magdalena is one of the main breeding and calving areas for California gray whales. Observe these enormous yet gentle animals from the ship and at water level from your Zodiac. Discover mangroves by kayak and walk along sand dunes of incomparable beauty. Bird watching in the mangroves can be excellent - magnificent frigate birds, pelicans, cormorants, terns and great blue heron, ibis, and willets may be seen. Explore Gorda Banks sea mount, a gathering place for humpback whales and dolphins. Cruise past spectacular Friars Rocks at Land's End into Cabo San Lucas to explore this popular historic town center. Snorkel with curious sea lions at Los Islotes. Swim, kayak, hike or join a relaxing evening beach barbecue at Espíritu Santo, perhaps the most beautiful island in the Sea of Cortez. Search for blue whales, the largest creature on earth, and dolphins in the waters west of Isla Santa Catalina. Enjoy more swimming, snorkeling, kayaking; observe the diverse bird life. |
