| Transfer to the Atlantic lowlands of Sarapiquí for a visit to La Selva Station, an internationally recognized center for tropical rain forest research and education. La Selva is owned and operated by the Organization of Tropical Studies (OTS), a non profit consortium of more than 50 educational institutions in the United States and Costa Rica. At La Selva you will have an approximately 3 hour guided hike inside the private reserve, where you will have the chance to see some of the more than 300 species of birds and other wildlife like howler monkeys and sloths. After the tour enjoy lunch at the OTS or perhaps at the nearby town of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí; then continue to your hotel in the Sarapiquí area. | ||||

| A scenic drive through rolling green countryside up to the top of Poás Volcano, whose colorful crater is one of the widest and deepest in the world. You may stand on the edge and look down into its cauldron. The second crater, Botos, is a crystal clear rain-fed lake surrounded by highland jungle and is reached by a walk of about a half mile through a unique dwarf cloud forest. After exploring the park continue on to the Central Pacific coast stopping for lunch en route. As you descend the mountain road you will enjoy the beautiful view of the Gulf of Nicoya and the Central Pacific coastline. Arrive mid-afternoon at your hotel. | ||||

| An early morning bus ride from San José with a light breakfast on board the bus brings you to the Pacific port of Puntarenas, where you board Calypso's Catamaran Cruise line's Manta Raya for a relaxing day cruising among the islands in the Gulf of Nicoya. Plenty of refreshments on board, a great lunch in the island, and opportunities for swimming and snorkeling during the 3-4 hours you spend on the island all will make this a memorable experience. You return to Puntarenas where your transport will be waiting to take you up the mountain to Monteverde for a late afternoon arrival. | ||||

| You will have an early morning pick up at your San José hotel for the 2-hour drive to the Sarapiquí River. This river has an incredible array of wildlife including toucans, river otters, and blue morpho butterflies. It is recommended for beginners seeking the thrill of white water rafting. Time on the river is about 2½ hours. After the take out enjoy lunch and then continue to the Arenal area. | ||||

| You will be picked up at your hotel for a drive past Braulio Carrillo National Park and the Rio Sucio bridge for a visit to a banana plantation in the Atlantic lowlands. Most everyday you will be able to see the process of harvesting and packaging of bananas on a working plantation. Banana export is one of the most important economic activities of Costa Rica, placing it among the largest producers and exporters of Latin America. After the visit to the plantation, enjoy lunch en route; then continue to Limón and south along the Atlantic coastline to Cahuita or Puerto Viejo. | ||||

| You will be picked up at your hotel for the 50 minute drive past Braulio Carrillo National Park and the Rio Sucio bridge to the 1000 acre private nature reserve where the aerial tram is located. An open- sided vehicle will shuttle guests 1.5 kms. to the Aerial Tram Visitor's Center. Guests are first introduced to the rainforest on a walk prior to boarding the tram cars for the 1.3 km long aerial excursion. The ride will stop several times as passengers board at the two end stations. It takes approximately 2 hours for the round trip as the cars glide on a breathtaking journey below, through, and above the airy canopy. After lunch on site at the Rain Forest Cafe, continue to Limón and then south along the Atlantic coastline to Cahuita or Puerto Viejo. | ||||
