Enjoy the view from the Pan American Highway followed by a trip down a gravel road enroute to Monteverde. Visit the Ecological Farm, a small private reserve, for an introduction to the flora and fauna of the area. Feel the cool mists on your face as you explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest, one of the richest and most diverse tropical cloud forests in the New World encompassing six different ecological life zones. The reserve is best known as home to the Resplendent Quetzal but also protects hundreds of other birds, mammals, and plant species. Arenal volcano, active since 1968, rumbles and erupts with vapor and lava. Weather permitting, enjoy the the spectacular displays in the evening. The following day hike to the Arenal Hanging Bridges in a reserve of fully recovered secondary rain forest. Traverse the 15 bridges from 5 to 100 meters long that cross the rain forest and make a 3 km circuit of interpretive trails. Visit the Hidalgo Family Hot Springs and enjoy a traditional Costa Rican dinner prepared by Doña MireyaOn to the Tortuguero area where you will have two full days to explore, including a visit to the Caribbean Conservation Corporation Museum to learn about the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle, and the Tortuguero National Park protecting 51,870 acres, one of the largest areas of tropical rain forest in Central America. Enroute to San José visit the Britt Coffee Plantation to enjoy the coffee tour. Re-live your adventure at your farewell dinner in San José. |
