If you want to visit two of Costa Rica's most remote and pristine areas, this is the itinerary for you. The Tortuguero canals along the Caribbean coast and the Tortuguero National Park are a must for nature lovers. There are dense rainforests, swamp forests and marshes where you will find Spider Monkeys, Howler Monkeys and White-faced Capuchin as well as Sloths and a host of colorful birds. During June through September, you may have an opportunity to see the endangered green turtles lay their eggs. The secluded Osa Peninsula is on the Southwest Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, adjacent to Corcovado National Park, which has been called "the most biologically intense place on earth" by National Geographic Magazine. The park, the largest area of rainforest remaining in Costa Rica, is home to many large mammals, jaguar, tapir, ocelot, collared and white-lipped peccaries, giant anteaters, and an incredible number of birds. You have your choice of several lodges in the Osa Peninsula; in the Drake Bay area in the north - Įguila de Osa, La Paloma, Wilderness Lodge; in the southern part - Lapa Rios and Bosque del Cabo; across Golfo Dulce - Rainbow Lodge. Optional activities in the area include snorkeling, exploring tidal pools, scuba diving, swimming, horseback riding, or a guided tour to Corcovado National Park. |
