Starts on Day 14 of Antarctica or on Day 24 of Antarctica & South America. Easter Island, just 12 miles long, lies 2,000 miles from Chile in the Pacific Ocean. Living alone, man man had the freedom to indulge cultural fantasies and to develop one of the most amazing culture of the Pacific. Not only did the ancients carve, move and erect 100-ton stone statues, they also invented three forms of writing. It is without doubt the most extraordinary open-air museum of Polynesia. View the Research Center and see
these monuments and learn the enthralling story that that researchers have
pieced together. Also enjoy dinner at the home of one of the researchers
with his extended Polynesian family and friends. Call Karen or Teri for price. |

"Explore the mountains, lakes and forests of Chilean
Patagonia. A narrow bridge serves as a gateway to the park, Torres del
Paine. Morning or evening, it doesn't matter when the Torres first reveal
themselves to your eyes. Towers they are, soaring overhead, dominating the
views, each ornamented with a mysterious bank of black. Rivers creep from
their flanks and tumble in cascading waterfalls. Guanacos graze in the
fields and Andean condors soar on high. Huge and mysterious, icebergs float
in an alpine lake. Even here, far from the white continent, a glacier exists
sending its progeny not out to sea but to decorate a turquoise pool with
fragments of gelid blue."
