Since 1987 Carrol and Ethelle Henderson have led more than 46 successful birding trips to Latin America, Africa, and New Zealand, 26 of which were to Costa Rica. Carrol is a wildlife biologist who is recognized nationwide for his work in the conservation of nongame wildlife. Since 1990 he has received the national Chevron Conservation and the Chuck Yeager Conservation Awards. The University of Texas published Carrol's A Field Guide to the Wildlife of Costa Rica containing over 400 of his superb photographs. In 2010 it will be re-released as three separate books: one on birds, one on butterflies, moths, and invertebrates, and the third on mammals, amphibians, and reptiles; the number of Carrol's photographs has been increased by approximately 100. Carrol did his graduate studies on Costa Rican wildlife in 1969. While in Costa Rica, he met and married Ethelle, a native Costa Rican and a student at the University of Costa Rica. Ethelle’s Spanish language, human relations and trip management skills contribute greatly to the success of every trip. Ethelle’s attention to detail and guidance in trip preparation make it possible for participants to enjoy the trips to the utmost. More than seventy-five percent of all persons who have traveled to the American tropics with the Henderson's return with them on subsequent trips and some have traveled with them five to ten times--a terrific "repeater rate!" Their collective experience and enthusiasm add much to the uniqueness and cohesiveness of these wonderful birding experiences. The trips are more than just a chance to see and count birds; they present an opportunity to experience the natural beauty and diversity of wildlife in the American tropics with two of the country's most experienced, knowledgeable, dedicated and enthusiastic tour leaders. |
